It’s not often we will have a transfer that is personal use only. After tons of requests we decided to make this print from Jess’ personal collection available for a limited time. We are working hard on a ghostie collection that can be used for non personal collections. But for now we wanted to share a special ghostie print to celebrate the launch of our brand… After all, our mascot is a ghostie🖤

-Underglaze transfer Firing Range: cone 04-10. Must be fired to cone 6 to be sealed and food safe

-Usable area: 13in x 18in

-Use on greenware or bisque ware.

-Color may vary due to screen display, lighting in photography, manufacturing variations, firing temps, glazes used etc.

-Always test fire before use.

-For most vibrant color results we recommend a zinc free clear fired to cone 6.

-Lead free

-Recommend fire to cone 6 or higher when use in functional work.

What Is an Underglaze Transfer?

An underglaze transfer is a sheet of rice paper printed with special ceramic underglaze ink, designed to transfer intricate designs directly onto your pottery. Jess uses these transfers on her own work at Potted by Jess, and they're made exclusively for our shop. Simply position the transfer with the ink side facing your pottery, then use a damp sponge to gently press it onto bisque ware, or a damp sponge or rib for greenware. The rice paper backing makes transfer seamless and effortless.

How to Apply Your Underglaze Transfer

Step 1: Cut Your Transfer

Cut a section of the transfer to the size of the area you wish to apply it to.

Pro Tip: Most Potted By Jess Transfers are designed to be easily cut and separated, so feel free to mix and match designs or use only the portion you need!

Step 2: Apply Your Transfer

Place the transfer ink-side down onto your piece. Using a damp sponge, gently sponge the entire back of the transfer to release the design onto your pottery.

Underglaze transfers can be applied to greenware or unglazed bisqueware. Our website also includes helpful tips on which prints we recommend using at each stage.

Step 3: Peel Away the Transfer

Once you have sponged the entire transfer, and before the transfer dries, slowly peel the paper away from your piece.

Peeling slowly allows you to check that the entire design has transferred. If you notice an area that was missed, you may be able to carefully lay that section back down and rework the ink. Be careful not to smudge the design if you choose to do this.

Step 4: Bisque Fire

If you applied your transfer to greenware, bisque fire your piece as you normally would.

Step 5: Glaze

Once your piece has been bisque-fired, it’s time to glaze! Many glazes work beautifully over underglaze transfers. For the best results and most vibrant colors, we recommend using a zinc-free clear glaze.

The transfers can be fired across a range of Cone 04–10. 

Step 6: Enjoy!

Once your piece has been glaze-fired, it’s ready to enjoy! We can’t wait to see how you make your Potted By Jess Transfer your own.
